Quattro corpi recuperati dopo l'avalanga su Broad Peak in Pakistan

Rescuers have recovered four bodies following an avalanche on Pakistan's Broad Peak, where a group of 10 climbers, including renowned mountaineer Nirmal Purja, went missing. The search continues for the remaining six climbers, with efforts hampered by severe weather conditions. The avalanche struck the team on Thursday as they attempted to scale the 8,047-meter peak, part of the Karakoram range.

Among the identified deceased are Nepali climber Pur Bahadur Gurung, Omani climber Nathira Alharthy, and American climber Mallory Geis. Their bodies were transported to a hospital in Skardu, while the condition of the others remains under investigation. The Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) confirmed the loss of contact with the climbers after the incident, launching a coordinated rescue operation involving military helicopters and drones.

Nirmal Purja, a Nepal-born British citizen and former special forces member, led the expedition. He gained international fame in 2019 for climbing all 14 of the world's 8,000-meter peaks in 189 days. His team included climbers from Nepal, the US, Oman, China, and Pakistan, with some members attempting the peak for the first time. The ACP emphasized the challenges of search efforts in the region, where helicopter availability is limited compared to Nepal.

Despite the difficulties, rescue teams continue to work, with some climbers' GPS trackers showing erratic movements post-avalanche. Purja's tracker reportedly shifted after the initial descent, raising hopes for his survival. However, no confirmed updates on his condition have been released. The incident highlights the risks of high-altitude climbing, with avalanches and extreme weather frequently causing accidents in the region.
